We've been contemplating learning another language while homeschooling and had decided on Spanish, since the population around here has changed significantly. What a blessing to receive R.E.A.L. Homeschool Spanish to review for TOS just when I was thinking we needed to pick a curriculum to get started on this goal! A short time ago we received a free download of R.E.A.L. Homeschool Spanish as a bundle which included the R.E.A.L. Homeschool Spanish book, an Activity Book, an Answer Book and Audio Files. We even got the Daily Curriculum Guide to walk us through the program. We've been able to get a good start with the program, but we obviously have not finished it in such a short time. Let me tell you about this conversational Spanish program.

First, about the R.E.A.L. Spanish Book:
The book is set up in Units (Greetings, Colors, Numbers, Time, Various Foods, Family, Face, Body, Months, etc.) There are 10 Units followed by an Appendix. In addition, there are Vocabulary and Home Educator Tips, an Ideas Section and Grammar Tidbits.

Next, let me give you an idea of the contents of the Activity Book:
A variety of activities are provided to aid in learning the material in each unit. The activities include things like Tile Scrambles, Crossword Puzzles, Word Searches, Dialogue Completion, Mystery Sentence Challenge, Matching Exercises, Cryptograms and more.

Last, let me tell you about the Daily Curriculum Guide:
The Guide gives you weekly plans with suggested activities and ideas for each day.

For example, in Unit 1:
Day 1 work on vocabulary by introducing new words with a song or puppet.
Day 2 have your child prepare his own vocabulary cards.
Day 3 have your child make a cartoon and write in some vocabulary.
Day 4 find a culture website from the Homeschool Spanish Website for you child to explore.
Day 5 . . .

What did we think of R.E.A.L. Homeschool Spanish?  Well, it's slow going for us right now, but we are enjoying the curriculum.  We like the way the book and activities are arranged.  It's nice to learn the vocabulary in short spurts of conversation--seems to help more than just memorizing a list of words.  The activities are great for review, review, and more review.  Like anything one learns, practice and more practice are required to get a firm grasp of the material.  This program is very "relaxed" and makes it easy to learn Spanish through repetition and multi-sensory activities.  The audio files are helpful and easy to understand.  Learning through songs, games, puzzles, etc. is how we function around here anyway.  That means this program is a good fit for us - yeah!  Hopefully we're going to continue on to finish the program and move on to more involved Spanish lessons.  This really is a program that is adaptable to any age--obviously moving at different paces.  The ideas and suggestions provide a "fun" factor which also makes this program user friendly.  This mom really likes the culture and other links too!  Thanks R.E.A.L. Homeschool Spanish - good job!
