Recently we've been looking at a great unit study about nutrition - Nutrition 101:  Choose Life!  This is a 448 page text on nutrition and the body from a biblical perspective.  Science, anatomy, biology, nutrition and health are covered in a way which encourages us to be good stewards of the bodies God has given us.
The study is set up to be used on a daily or weekly schedule.  The six units are designed to be completed in a year.  Each chapter includes the relevant topical material, discussion questions, activities ("Elementary" and "Secondary"), additional resources, "power" recipes and additional recipes.  There is a lot of relevant scripture quoted, and I thought these references would be good memory verses.  There are also discussion questions to gain a deeper understanding of the scripture verses and the topical information.  There are 6 units, each of which contains 4 chapters, an Activity Guide for the units and 31 Appendices.
Here's what you'll find in this very comprehensive book:
Unit 1 - The Brain and Nervous System

What we liked:  This book is easy to read, colorfully illustrated, contains Fun Facts and great "Power" Recipes.  The "teacher" in me really liked the "Word Power" vocabulary sections too.   The material and activities are very adjustable for age and abilities.  Although the additional resources (Web sites and Books) looked interesting we did not have time to review many of them.  The Appendices are wonderful!  Lots of useful information in this book.  This could easily be used over a couple of years with varied activities and extra resources.    We'll be spending more time finishing this book and most likely use it again with different activities next year.  Even though my daughter was not excited at first, she thought the information and discussions were pretty good.  She especially liked the related activity ideas.

Something to Consider:  Although at first glance the price looks a bit high, this Nutrition 101 unit is worth every penny.  This book will be a great reference book to refer to as needed.
