I recently received a copy of Father of Lights, a documentary by filmmaker Darren Wilson, to provide this review.  I really wasn’t sure what to expect since I was unfamiliar with Mr. Wilson, but I was pleasantly surprised and encouraged by the exciting content.  Let me tell you a little bit about this attempt at “filming God and understanding His character”.

In the film Mr. Wilson and his team travel around the world seeking to reveal God and his ways.  Along the way watchers are privileged to see real-life conversations with witch doctors, violent gang leaders, Hindu holy men and others.  The sections of this film include conversations about our misconceptions of God and his character, tattoo evangelism, witnessing on Venice Beach, the religious spirit, the Awakening, what grace really is, encounters with a witch doctor and his wife, a couple who open a home for unwanted children in China, a visit to the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem and more.   This film shows interactions with what most would consider some “scary” characters in today’s society.  There is a lot of discussion about what grace means and where it comes from.  There are also examples of complete trust in God for provision as well as prayers which bring physical healing.   You’ll even get to see the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem and find out how the team managed to get in this place where many people are unable to visit regardless of their power, money or influence.  This filmmaker definitely met his goal!  I enjoyed the film and plan on sharing it with a number of people.
