Perhaps you remember reading here about my new favorite author, Jamie Carie, and her recent book The Guardian Duke?  Well, she's done it again, The Forgiven Duke, the second in the Forgotten Castles Series, is set to release this July.  I got a copy to provide this review, and I'm so glad I did.  Check out this teaser:

"Tethered by her impulsive promise to marry Lord John Lemon—the path of least resistance—Alexandria Featherstone sets off from Ireland to Iceland in search of her parents with a leaden heart. Her glimpse of her guardian, the Duke of St. Easton—the path less traveled by—on Dublin’s shore still haunts her. Will he come after her? Will he drag her back to London, quelling her mission to rescue her treasure-seeking parents, or might he decide to throw caution to the wind and choose Foy Pour Devoir: “Faith for Duty,” the St. Easton motto. The Featherstone motto Valens et Volens: “Willing and Able” beats in her heart and thrums through her veins. She will find her parents and find their love, no matter the cost.

The powerful and wing-clipped Duke of St. Easton has never known the challenge that has become his life since hearing his ward’s name. Alexandria Featherstone will be the life of him or the death of him. Only time and God’s plan will reveal just how much this man can endure for the prize of love."

This second book of Jamie's trilogy was easily as good as her first.  I really enjoy her believable characters and rich descriptions throughout both books.  Both the Duke of St. Easton and Alexandria Featherstone are headstrong, independent, and far from perfect, but they seemed destined for each other.  Or do they?  I'm not telling, but I can tell you that Jamie takes the story from Ireland to Iceland, and the story takes a few twists and turns that you might not expect.

Jamie's writing style is easy-to-read and enjoyable.  I only found one thing lacking--the rest of the story.  Now I'll be waiting patiently for the third book of the trilogy, mostly because I have no choice.  I think you'll enjoy this book, and the cliffhanger will definitely bring you back for Jamie's final installment in the series.

If you could do one thing for your children to show them how much you care about and love them what would it be?  Would they appreciate it?  Are you sure?  Do you  feel like your children always want more from you?  Perhaps this book can help you find out what will reach, satisfy, and encourage your children.

Let me tell you a bit about this helpful book I recently received to provide this review.
The 5 Love Languages of Children is written by Gary Chapman and Ross Campbell.  Gary Chapman, PhD is the author of The 5 Love Languages series and the director of Marriage and Family Life Consultants, Inc.  Ross Campbell, MD is the author of How to Really Love Your Child and an authority on parent-child relationships. The two authors have also coauthored How to Really Love Your Adult Child.

This book is a fairly quick read and contains many practical examples showing how to figure out what really motivates and touches your child.  Here's what you'll find inside:

According to the authors The 5 Love Languages are:
  1. Physical Touch - touches, hugs, kisses, physical contact
  2. Words of Affirmation - words of affection and endearment, words of praise and encouragement, words that give positive guidance
  3. Quality Time - undivided attention, doing things together, positive eye contact, quality conversations, reading a story
  4. Gifts - giving and receiving symbols of love
  5. Acts of Service - helping, doing things for the child
In addition to describing the 5 Love Languages, the book also covers:
  • How to Discover Your Child's Primary Love Language
  • Discipline and the Love Languages
  • Learning and the Love Languages
  • Anger and Love
  • Speaking the Love Languages in Single-parent Families
  • Speaking the Love Languages in Marriage
There are also Notes, More Help for Parents, and the Love Language Mystery Game (which helps you discover your child's love language and helps them discover their love language).

For a free online study guide visit the website here .

To check out other resources regarding the book visit here .  Or to find out more about The 5 Love Languages series visit here .

There is even a Facebook page here .

If you'd like to see what's new or follow Mr. Chapman visit his Twitter page here
"Why did I read this?" or "I really need to share this book!"   Well, obviously, the choice here is the second.  This book has the potential to help you understand your child, make them feel loved and encourage them in the best way possible.  This was a good book with practical thoughts and ideas.  Much like the other Love Language series books, the 5 languages are discussed with specific regard to your relationship with your children.  We all know that all children are different, but in these pages you'll gain a bit more perspective and hopefully some useful ideas to reach out to your children.  I think this would be a great book for all parents to read.

If this books sounds interesting/helpful to you then there's something else you need to know.  I'll be drawing one lucky winner to receive a copy of the book on April 18, 2012.

Here's how to enter:
1.  To enter visit http://www.5lovelanguages.com/ then come back here and tell me something you found that was interesting on the site.  This one is required--mostly so you'll find out what other great resources are available.

2.  For another entry sign-up to get my posts by e-mail, and let me know in a comment.

3.  For 3 entries share this giveaway on Facebook or Twitter then come back here and tell me.
Good luck to all who enter!  Blessings!

Homeschool Mosaics - One More Thing on the Plate - Come Check it Out!

Well, by now my readers have been seeing a lot of buzz about something called Homeschool Mosaics.  Let me tell you a bit more about it.

A short while ago some of my homeschool blogger friends kicked around the thought of how we all have our own strengths and weakness, gifts and talents.  One friend commented that we should figure out a way to share all of this "wealth" with other homeschooling families.  One thing led to another, someone said something about perhaps creating a blog, we all circled, put out hands into the middle and said "Go!"  This is a great team of ladies with a lot to say about a lot of things.  Hopefully readers will find something useful, encouraging or even humorous.  Homeschool Mosaics is intending to be a blessing to the readers.  Go check it out - you know you want to!

As for my part ...
On the 13th of each month I will be putting up a post known as The Book Lady's Top 10.  The topic will be different each time.  I will be listing my top 10 picks for books on different topics.  Hopefully you'll find something there that you need or were not aware of.   I'll be telling a little bit about each book too, and I'll be sharing some other links and resources along the way.

Blessings!

You can also check out what's happening on Homeschool Mosaics on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or RSS feed.
