Do you remember those bracelets and necklaces that everyone wore that said WWJD?  This movie revives that old question in a new inspiring story.

"Matthew Stevenson is a troubled kid from a broken home. When he vandalizes the local church to get back at his parents, Matthew has to repair the damage to the church to avoid criminal charges. While working at the church, he meets Ernest (John Ratzenberger), an accomplished wood carver who created the intricate woodwork decoration that Matthew destroyed. Ernest has become something of a hermit, but reluctantly comes out of reclusion to help repair the church. Now Ernest and Matthew must work together to preserve the church's beautiful antiquity, and along the way, they also manage to restore their faith in God and in life."

Matthew's life turns around and just keeps getting better as a result of a promise to always ask himself "What Would Jesus Do?" before making any major decisions.  As he shares with his parents this simple promise a change begins in their hearts too.

Pondering on this WWJD story:  This was a wonderful new take on an old question.
This is a great family movie.  Tackling the story of a broken home is not new, nor is the WWJD question.  With so many broken homes in our country today, it was refreshing to see this family come together.  The actors did a great job of bringing out the emotion of the situation, and John Ratzenberger was very convincing.  Having never seen John in anything this serious, I was very impressed with the sensitivity he conveyed as Ernest.  The simple storyline in this movie is very powerful.  I'm thankful I watched The Woodcarver and look forward to sharing it with my friends and family.
