Lately I've been checking out a beautiful hardcover book I received from Kregel, The Candle Classic Bible. I love this book! Within the pages are 365 Bible stories from both the Old and New Testaments. I really like the colorful illustrations. The stories are divided by day (yes, one for each day of the year) and contain scripture references. What a great way to share the Bible with kids, one small chunk at a time! In the Old Testament stories your child can learn about the story of creation, the story of Noah, the story of different languages, the story of Abraham, and many more favorites. In the New Testament stories your child can learn about John the Baptist, the life and travels and teachings of Jesus, and the apostles. Little children aren't likely to read the Bible through in a year, but you can certainly give them a good overview of significant stories in a year with this book.
The Candle Classic Bible would be a good gift for an older child to read or a good read aloud book, perhaps in the morning or at bedtime. I'm doing the bedtime reading with my little guy. He loves to look at the pictures while listening. The stories are easy to read and understand. The short story format works well for wigglers too. (wink, wink) We'll be pulling this out often, and when he's able I'll have the little guy read it on his own too. If you're looking for a way to share Bible stories with your younger child this is a very good option.
